A good read on some of the many problems we have in the US health system with strategies to improve.I enjoyed reading it.

Most of the information in this book is available online. I bought it because it was required for a college course, then I never even opened it.

This is a really important national study of health disparities in the US - mainly health disparities between African Americans and Caucasians (but other ethnic groups are occasionally mentioned). It shows that African Americans experience higher rates of certain medical conditions than other ethnic groups (e.g. diabetes), but also identifies clinical and practical barriers and forms of discrimination which result in inferior treatment. Importantly, it does not address inequalities which stem from discrepancies in insurance coverage -- this is a major limitation, I think.A word of warning - this is published by the National Institutes of Medicine, so it is incredibly academic - there is a comprehensive, but somewhat excessive, literature review of some topics that lasts 126 pages. Useful for public health/epidemiology students (particularly grad students), but not for the general reader.Although there is an Executive Summary at the beginning, it is also written in a very academic, rather than accessible, tone. So I would suggest the intended audience is really public health/epidemiology professionals.

The author's goal may have been to give me something to think about, but my only question is why did I waste my time and money on this waste of electrons.

I think Carson Wyatt wrote a great book that was clear and to the point. All vital issues were covered, from Starting your herd, over Food and Water, to How to Sell your cattle. I particularly found the issues of Common diseases and preventions interesting, and learned something new.

I bought a paper copy, not the ebook, so perhaps I am missing something that the other reviewers received in electronic format. This book is functionally useless. It barely skims the surface of what you need to know to get started with beef cattle, and the (shallow) information that is contained therein is largely either common sense, or so broad in scope as to be laughable.Wyatt's writing style does not flow in a manner that enhances the reader's experience ( think awkward undergraduate term paper) and editing gaffs are rampant.Can't say I recommend this book at all.

Very knowledgable book....I do not raise cattle and purchased this book for my cousins...before sending I read it and was amazed at all the information I absorbed about raising beef cattle and the business of it all. If done correctly it can be a very profitable business, and I would recommend this book to everyone looking to be educated on the subject.

After reading Carson Wyatt's book on raising dairy cattle, I decided to purchase this one as well, and wasn't disappointed. Just like the other book, this one is highly comprehensive. It covers everything you need to know about raising beef cattle, and each part of the process is very well explained. My father intends to build a small farm soon and I'm sure he'll find these books very useful!

This booklet was a waste of my money. I am new to beef cattle ranching and what I consider a beginner, so I had hopes this would have more "meat" to it. This provided little, if any, enlightenment to me as far as cattle types, breeding, feeding, grazing needs, etc. It reads as if someone who speaks English as a second language wrote it after researching Google. I should have gone to the local ag college and purchased some of their textbooks.

The events of September 11 and the war in Afghanistan have again brought attention to Kipling and the themes of imperialism, postcolonialism, and the role of the West in the Middle East. While essentially a Victorian in his values and art, Kipling died in 1936 on the eve of World War II, opposed to fascism and prophesying that the end of the British Empire would bring sectarian strife. During his life he witnessed the pinnacle and decline of the British Empire. While a spokesman for empire, Kipling was always cognizant of the complexity of the "white man's burden." Gilmour, who has written books on the politics of Spain and Lebanon, as well as a biography of Italian novelist Giuseppe di Lampedusa, offers a brief, sympathetic, well-informed, and highly readable account of Kipling. He focuses on Kipling's complex relation to empire, especially as expressed in his stories and poetry. His effort joins Harry Ricketts's recent popular, and more general, Rudyard Kipling. *Starred Review* For 50 years, Rudyard Kipling projected his political and social views in prose fiction and, more pointedly, in verse. He was a British imperial propagandist but also an artist who took no orders. As Gilmour presents him in a biography focused on his political life, but that cites and evaluates numerous poems and stories, noting their aesthetic qualities as well as their messages, Kipling was the greatest, because he was the most humane, British imperialist and also the empire's great, pessimistic prophet. His early working years in India convinced him that British rule there had to be paternal: guiding but not dominating, helping but not exploiting native peoples. The British in South Africa had similar duties, he thought, and needed also to restrain the Boers, whom he warned would establish a racist regime: apartheid. He despised liberals and socialists because he believed they would dismantle the empire, leaving India to be torn asunder by contending Hindus and Muslims--another accurate forecast. He undermined his own effectiveness with his ideological purity and permanent grudges. Still, as Gilmour makes abundantly clear, he was a major player in the affairs of the mightiest power on Earth, which lost its potency in tandem with his loss of practical influence.
